Idyll
A central theme of my recent studio work has been the transmission of knowledge through the cultivation of plants. I’m interested in the interaction between people and plants over time and how the plants become repositories of memory, history, beauty and desire. The connections between plants and humans have defined communities and shaped cultural identity for millennia. The images here are directly influenced by a recent residency in Quebec, Canada. An idyll is an idealized and unsustainable time spent in nature. The word echoes the poignant and brief Canadian summer as well as the current vulnerable state of global environments due to human activity.
